H. Scott Mortensen, O.D., M.S.

   Dr. Scott Mortensen was born and raised in South East Idaho where he helped take care of his family's farm and ranch.  He was very involved and excelled in South Fremont's sporting programs all through high school.  He attended Ricks Junior College where he played basketball for the Vikings.  He served a 2 year LDS mission in the Los Angeles area in Southern California where he learned to speak fluently in the Spanish language.  Upon returning from California, Dr. Mortensen finished his Bachelor and Master degree in Zoology from Brigham Young University (BYU) in Provo, UT in 1977. 
    Dr. Scott Mortensen received his optometric education from the Southern California College of Optometry (SCCO) from 1977 to 1981.  He received exceptional optometric training in diagnosing, treating, and managing ocular conditions/diseases (such as macular degeneration, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, keratoconus, strabismus, amblyopia, etc) from:
  • Los Angeles Veteran's Affairs Hospital
  • Optometric Center of Los Angeles
  • Naval Medical Clinic in Long Beach CA
  • March Air Force Base in Riverside CA
  • SCCO Eye Care Center
Following these rotations he received his Doctor of Optometry degree and returned to South East Idaho. 
    Dr. Scott Mortensen joined the Rexburg Vision Center in 1981 and soon after bought sole possession in 1991.  He is a member of the AOA and IOP, and served as President of the IOP during 1989.  Dr. Mortensen is married to Camille (Heward) Mortensen, together have raised 5 children, and now enjoys 9 grandchildren.  He is an avid gardener, sports enthusiast, and makes sure to complete a sudoku puzzle daily.
